There's so much to see and do on St. Simon's Island, but here are a few suggestions: 1) The Beach. St. Simons Island has glorious beaches that can stretch out for hundreds of yards at low tide. Soft sand that gradually extends out in teh Atlantic where sand dollars can be scooped out of the ocean with your feet. No visit to the island is complete without a visit to a beach and no matter where you are staying, rest-assured you're a stone's throw from paradise. 2) Eating and drinking. We are going to feed everyone and provide plenty to drink, but certainly you'll want to explore the fabulous bars and restaraunts on the island too! Head to Mallory Street where you'll find delicious spots like Dressner's and Barbara Jeans as well as some great bars. If you want to shoot a game of pool, Murphy's Tavern is the place. For live music and a great happy hour, try Rafters. And for patio dining and drinking Iguana's and Mullett Bay are great spots too. Another all-around fun place right by the pier is Brogen's and it's definitely worth checking out. 3) Shop, shop, shop! Again, Mallory Street is the place. Lots of cute boutiques, clothing shops, vintage stores ... you name it, it's probably there. And at great prices! 4) Tee it up. Whether you like your golf of the mini variety or the tradional sort, there are options abound. There's a neat little miniature course by the pier (Mallory Street) or you can choose from one of the many course on the island or in the nearby vicinity. For options, visit: http://www.thegolfcourses.net/golfcourses/GA/SaintSimonsIsland.htm 5) See the sites: Visit British Colonial era Fort Frederica, climb the steps for the spectacular views from the top of the St. Simons Lighthouse, visit Bloody Marsh (site of the last Spanish invasion of Georgia), and take your camera and/or easel to lovely Christ Church at Frederica (so scenic and serene that it is probably the second most “painted” location in all of Georgia, our Lighthouse being the first!). Visit the Millionaires Village with former winter homes of the Rockefeller’s, Morgan’s, Astor’s, Vanderbilt’s etc. 6) Jacksonville/Savannah/Orlando: An hour south will put you in Jacksonville with all the amenities you would expect in a big city, an hour north takes you to Savannah with its lovely squares and one of the largest and most successful historical preservation districts in the nation. Orlando is only a few hours too if you're desperate to get your Disney on!
